HNB Assurance and HNB General Insurance is Committed to Honor all Claims Related to COVID-19

HNB Assurance PLC and its fully owned subsidiary HNB General Insurance Limited will honor all claims both life and medical related to COVID-19.

The spokesman for both companies stated that Insurance Companies are not liable to honor claims when a disease is classified as a pandemic. However, as a responsible corporate citizen, it is our duty to stand by our customers and our nation at this time of dire need. Therefore, HNB Assurance, the Life Insurance Company will honor the life and medical claims made by its customers related to COVID-19. What’s more, for those policies with the Hospitalization Per Day Cover, payment will be made for the number of days a person is confined to a structured quarantine process (excluding self-quarantine). Further, the General Insurance Company, HNB General Insurance will honor all hospitalization claims pertaining to COVID-19 if any.

The Company requests all persons to limit their movements in public, and encourages people to access its services through the call centers and the companies web sites as well as other digital channels. Premium payments could also be made online.

The Company urges all citizens to act responsibly at this time, and do each one's part in containing the spread of this disease in our country by practicing simple measures such as social distancing, hand and face hygiene and above all, if exposed to an infected person, to follow the procedures as directed by the Government of Sri Lanka.

Sithumina Jayasundara appointed as Chief Operating Officer of HNB General Insurance Ltd.

HNB General Insurance Limited (HNBGI), the fully owned subsidiary of HNB Assurance PLC (HNBA) announced the appointment of Sithumina Jayasundara to the position of Chief Operating Officer recently. With over 23 years of experience in different capacities, Sithumina holds a MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK), ACII (UK), ANZIF (Snr Assoc) as well as the status of a Chartered Insurer. Having Joined HNB General Insurance in July 2014, he was appointed to the Group Executive Committee in 2015 and subsequently promoted as the Chief Technical Officer of HNBGI.

He has obtained foreign exposure through different training programmes related to General Insurance and specialized in the field of Reinsurance. Sithumina is the Vice-President of the Sri Lanka Insurance Institute which is affiliated to the Chartered Insurance Institute of UK. He is also the founder Council Member of The Association of Chartered Insurance Professionals (ACIP) in Sri Lanka.

Sharing his comments, Managing Director/CEO of HNBA and HNBGI Mr. Deepthi Lokuarachchi stated, “Sithumina has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Company, and I am sure he will excel in his new role in steering this company in the future. He has the benefit of a very strong reinsurance background apart from his business acumen and keen technical insight. I wish Sithumina all the very best in his new appointment”.

HNBGI enters into an MOU with Micro Cars (Pvt) Ltd

HNB General Insurance Limited (HNBGI), the fully owned subsidiary of HNB Assurance PLC (HNBA), stood together with Micro Cars (Pvt) Ltd., as it was announced that the two entities have agreed upon a Memorandum of Understanding, to promote the MG range of vehicles. This partnership is aimed at enhancing the synergies that the two companies bear in a sense of insuring vehicles, whilst matching business quality and consistency. The MOU was signed  by Managing Director/CEO of HNBA and HNBGI, Mr. Deepthi Lokuarachchi and Director of Micro Cars (Pvt) Ltd. Mr. Ruvindhu Guneratne.

Sharing his views about the agreement, Mr. Lokuarachchi stated, “we have been working togerther with Mirco Cars (Pvt) Limited for some time now and over the years have been offering the motoring public of Sri Lanka the peace of mind to enjoy the pleasures of driving a MG knowing that their pride on wheels is fully covered. We are also pleased at working towards offering free insurance covers to those who own a MG from Micro Cars, who has been a mover and shaker in Sri Lanka’s automotive industry in the recent times. Our insurance solutions can be tailored to suit the discerning motorist so that adequate protection for the vehicle could be obtained. In this regard, I would like to mention our product, MotorGuard Extra for example, which allows replacement of brand new parts without an owners contribution even after the first three years. We are very pleased to sign this MOU with Micro to promote such an iconic motoring brand as MG.
